Supporting the Institute of Acoustics’ Project Reverb initiative
The UK’s Professional body for those working in Acoustics, Noise, Sound and Vibration, the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) have launched an initiative to try and get acousticians into schools across the UK during British Science Week, which takes place in March 2025. The initiative is called Project Reverb.
As award-winning acousticians with a passion for providing and adding social value to our work, we’re eager to support the IOA with their initiative and have committed to providing support to them next year. Our track record of corporate social responsibility is evident and over the past eleven months, our Acoustics team, which includes two STEM Ambassadors (STEM-A), have spent time with students at Colchester Institute and The Ashley School, teaching them about acoustics in the built and natural environment. During these events they have covered a wide range of topics, discussing everything from Noise Monitoring and Building Acoustics to designing performance spaces and transferring skills into Audio Post-Production.
In support of Project Reverb, next year Jody Blacklock (STEM-A), Mat Tuora (STEM-A), Ben Dixon and Sam Ward will be spending time in various schools across the eastern region, where they will be presenting, leading lessons, and providing students with various materials to enhance their understanding of acoustics in the built and natural environment.
Our acousticians are experts in their field, who are excited by the prospect of using their knowledge and understanding to aspire future young acousticians or sound engineers. Jody Blacklock, who leads our Acoustics team is the Chair of the Eastern Branch of the IOA and has played a key role on the Development Team for Project Reverb. Mat Tuora also sits on the Eastern Branch and is leading the Volunteer Support Group.
We would like to encourage local schools and academic faculty who are interest in Project Reverb to reach out to us today, so that together we can make this ambitious initiative a reality.
