As multidisciplinary engineering and environmental consultants, we understand how critical innovation is across our industry. From wearable technology, artificial intelligence, drones and clash detection software to the self-climbing safety cocoons adorning the external facades of new high-rise developments across the globe, innovation is helping to address major industry challenges. These challenges range from labour shortages and worker safety to denser urban environments, rising material costs, the acute need for networks and infrastructure, increasingly complex project scopes, and the drive towards becoming a sustainable industry.

Over the next decade, innovation will continue to disrupt the industry and the challenges we face will change, but by working collaboratively together and by fostering a positive culture of innovation and exploration, we can implement systematic change and tackle these challenges head-on. However, innovation is at its very nature, about impact, and it doesn’t have to be a radical change to be ground-breaking. The smallest technological advancement or change in thinking, when applied correctly, can have a big impact and even though it can be difficult to keep up to date with developments, it remains true that industries and businesses which embrace new technologies have a strong competitive advantage, no matter their size or age.

We are excited to see the entries into this year’s Innovation category and we wish everyone the best of luck.
