Create’s Acoustics team joint winner at the 2025 ANC Awards

June 27, 2025

The 2025 Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) Awards took place on Wednesday 25 June at the Crowne Plaza, Birmingham, during the ANC Annual Conference. Shortlisted entrants presented their projects in four-minute summaries earlier in the day, with the winners announced at the evening awards dinner, hosted by science journalist Pallab Ghosh.

Now in their twelfth year, the ANC Awards celebrate outstanding achievement and technical excellence in acoustics, noise, and vibration consultancy. Entries are anonymously peer reviewed by industry experts and judged on innovation, impact, and professional precision.

Create’s Acoustics team was shortlisted in two categories and came away with a joint category win and a Highly Commended distinction.

Delivered in collaboration with Floyd Slaski Architects, the St George’s ITU project involved the construction of a new modular building connected to the existing Atkinson Morley Wing via a new lift tower. The facility includes 20 new intensive care beds, isolation rooms, staff welfare facilities and teaching spaces.

The site’s sensitivity and operational importance presented significant acoustic challenges. Our Acoustics team led a feasibility assessment during pre-construction, identifying risks from vibration and noise that could impact ongoing clinical services.

We worked closely with the contractor to design and execute controlled on-site vibration testing, establishing safe limits for construction activity. These thresholds became the basis for strict vibration control measures implemented throughout the build. This work was delivered while maintaining full operation of the existing hospital building.

The judges highlighted the outstanding level of collaboration, noting the effective coordination between acousticians, clinicians, engineers, and contractors. They appreciated the real-world impact of ensuring patient safety and clinical performance under demanding constraints.

Ironworks is a flagship mixed-use regeneration scheme, delivered by Hill Group for Cambridge Investment Partnership, comprising 236 new homes, a double-vaulted community centre, public green space and restored Grade II-listed buildings including the Mill Road Library and Gatehouse.

Create’s Acoustics team was involved from RIBA Stage 3 through to completion. We addressed a range of acoustic challenges including traffic noise from the busy Mill Road, vibration and noise from the adjacent Cambridge to London rail line and sidings.

Our work also included sound insulation testing and ongoing technical reviews and pre-completion testing, ensuring all acoustic conditions were satisfied and verified on site.

The ANC Awards are a key moment in the UK acoustics calendar, and we’re incredibly proud to have been recognised in both categories this year.

Congratulations to our Acoustics team and to all the finalists and winners across the industry.
