Brompton’s innovative new headquarters approved
We are thrilled to learn that plans by bike manufacturer Brompton to open a £100m new factory with office space and a museum on land just south of Ashford have been approved by Ashford Borough Council’s planning committee.
Designed by Hollaway Studio for the cycle manufacturer, the campus will feature manmade wetlands, a new factory, 46,000m2 of office space and a museum. It will help Brompton to increase its number of staff from 850 to as many as 1,500. The structures will stand on stilts and sit above rewilded Greenfield land, with a circular walking and cycle path around the perimeter of the buildings. The campus is designed from the outset to be carbon neutral, maximising the use of natural light, air flows, wind and solar power. There will be minimal parking with staff encouraged to take sustainable modes of transport.
Create have been working on the campus proposals since 2020, fulfilling the role of Flood Risk Consultant. The project team is comprised Iceni Projects, Quinn Estates, Greenspace Ecological Solutions, Aspect Landscape Planning, Stantec, Entran, Sol Environment, and Manhire Associates.
Over the past 5 years our team have strived to mitigate the risks posed by the Level 3 Flood Zone, which the structures will be built within. In support of the planning application, we have completed a number of technical services and provided specialist advice to Brompton, as they have continued to evolve and adapt their proposals. Our work to-date includes:
- Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment
- Hydraulic Modelling
- Reports
- Flood Compensation
- Environmental Statement (ES) Chapter
We are excited to see this innovative proposal approved and are hopeful that construction will soon commence.
