Who is Tom Bennett?

Tom is a Principal Geotechnical & Environmental Consultant. He joined Create in 2019 and has since progressed to his current position. He has played a key role in the growth and performance of our Geo-environmental team, working closely with Colin Buchanan.

Prior to joining Create, Tom held positions with Halliburton and A F Howland Associates. He began his career in the North Sea oil and gas industry as a Data Engineer, before transitioning into geotechnical and environmental consultancy in 2017.


What does Tom bring to our team?

Tom brings a high level of adaptability and technical capability to the team. He is frequently entrusted with independent site work, where his data collection and investigative approach provide critical information to inform the planning, design, and delivery of projects.

He has extensive experience in Phase 1 and Phase 2 contaminated land assessments, alongside the development of remediation strategies. Tom also produces site-specific material management plans and construction logistics strategies, ensuring projects are both compliant and practical to deliver.


Outside of work

Tom fences and coaches at Norfolk Fencing Club. He is a former British National Fencing Champion and has previously been ranked British Number 1.

In January 2023 the northbound carriageway of the A21 near Hastings was closed due to a landslide. We were appointed by MJ Church Group to provide Geo-environmental services.

A sustainable gas-free development comprising 70 new homes on the site of a former Murketts car dealership and unused workshop. Create provided multidisciplinary services to support the planning application, which received approval in September 2024.

A new purpose-built community hospice in Gorleston-on-Sea, currently at RIBA Stage 4 - Technical Design. Having secured planning in 2025, Create are continuing to deliver multidisciplinary services as part of the design team.
