We have been working with Mayfield Market Towns Limited since 2012 providing a range of multidisciplinary services to support the proposals for a new town as an option for development through the Horsham Local Plan.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Situated in Sussex along the River Adur, Mayfields will focus on sustainable living and comprise of 7,000 new homes and associated employment, a town centre and educational facilities. It is the intent of the development team to deliver some £310 million worth of community infrastructure, 7,000 new homes and employment space.

Our multidisciplinary team have provided technical services and advice to the development team since 2012, helping to take the development from initial feasibility studies through to pre-application planning.

WHAT WE DID:

FEASIBILITY STAGE

  • Conducted a detailed Geographic Information System (GIS) exercise to determine a suitable location for development
  • Reviewed development constraints including flooding, water resources, contamination, topography, ecology, heritage and general landscape impact

PLANNING STAGE

  • Input into an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
  • Built relationships with the likes of Southern Water, Horsham District Council, Southern Water and West Sussex County Council
  • Developed a Flood Mitigation Strategy
  • Flood Modelling
  • Developed a Water Neutrality Strategy

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS / BENEFITS

  • Recommended natural flood management techniques to reduce the risk of flooding downstream.
  • Focused on water re-use where possible on site through harvesting and recycling.
  • Proposed a new sewage treatment works, using NUTREM technology, which when constructed will be managed and operated by Severn Trent Connect.
